Report runs in Bex Analyzer but not in Analysis for Office

$

We have several reports that retrieve a large amount of data that can run in Bex Analyzer 7.0 but will not run in Analysis for Office 1.4.8 or 1.4.10

we get this error message:   ‘Size limit of result set exceeded’

Does anyone know what to do to get this to work?

We have set the following parameters:

BW version 7.30 SP7

AFO version 1.4.10

In BW - BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_MAX set to 5,000,000

In AFO -  HKEY_Current_user "resultsetsizelimit = "-1"

In RSRT we see this particular query returns 4.3 million cells ( under the 5 million set)

The query in SM04 shows the memory getting as high as 6GB

Each user is enable to use 20GB of memory

Connection to BW via BusinessObjects Platform

Hi guys,

We want our users to log onto BW via the BO platform. At the moment I can pull a BW user through into our BO system and they can log onto Analysis by selecting BO platform using SAP Authentication. The next step is that they need to log onto BW. We don't have SSO set up so again they use their BW userID and password.

select_data_source.jpg

What are the options open to us for allowing our users to log onto BW? By that I mean which of the connection options can we use? Currently I only see a list of systems when I select 'Local System' and it pulls thought the systems from my .ini file and I can connect ok to any system regardless of which BO system I connected to.

Can/should I be able to see a list of Systems that we want to give our users access to from the 'System' option from the conenctions pull-down?

I can't find any documentation that details how I go about doing this, if it's at all possible. I assume I do some security in the BO CMC?

I hope the above makes sense? Regards and thanks in advance,

Stephen

Analysis vs WebI (Web Intelligence)

I've searched all over SCN as well as the rest of the web and can't find a good comparison between the two tools. I did see a post on here comparing WebI 3.X with Analysis 4.0 but we're specifically looking at 4.0 tools. We're working on a side by side comparison of BusinessObjects Analysis vs Web Intelligence and what situations, if any, you would want to use WebI over Analysis, especially when you have Crystal Reports as an option for formatted reports. To us it seems that Analysis gives you much more flexibility without the restrictions of WebI. Any input on this or links to relevant articles is much appreciated and points will be awarded for helpful answers!

Hierarchy authorization issue

Hello,

I have following requirement for analysis report. Generally it considers the datasource query and the characteristic 0costcenter.

I want to restrict costcenters in the report to the specyfic levels of the specyfic hierarchies. I have created bex variable for flexible hierarchy selection and also additional variable for flexible hierarchy level selection. So when i.e. hierarchy A is selected in the first variable then in the second variable user can select specyfic levels of hierarchy A. And now I need to add authorization restrictions to the reporting process. So that when user is able to use only hierarchy A or B he should not see rest of hierarchies when he selects F4 - only A i B should be displayed. In rsecadmin I created authorization object for costcenter including the hierarchy part.

As hierarchy variable accepts only single value input I can't use default values or user-exit. Is there a way to filter the F4 help according to the user authorization - specified in RSECADMIN? My goal is to have a clear presentation to the user which hierarchies can he used. Maybe in the infoobject settings there is some setting relevant for my requirement?

Filter member

Hello,

We are using Analysis for office on top of HANA Analytical view. The Analytical view is based on a huge table of about 3B records. When the user try to filter on a member:

1.jpg

The following SQL is generated on the HANA side:

SELECT DISTINCT "AAA" FROM "BBB"."CCC" ORDER BY "AAA"  ASC  LIMIT 10001

For huge dimensions this query doesn't make scene and will never finish..

Is it possible to prevent from the users to create this LOV when filtering a member?

Thanks,

Amir

BO Analysis for Excel – How to connect to SAP BW

$

Hi Gurus,

We recently upgrade to BO 4.1 (from 3.1).  And want to start to use Analysis for Excel.

We are little unclear how to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW 7,3.

From Analysis select “Select Data Source” Then get a pop-up “Logon to SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform” with User, Password and Web Service URL.  All those are blank.  For the Web Service URL there is a message “Error while checking availability of SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform system”

ScreenHunter_1001 Sep. 16 10.56.jpg

If choose “Skip” then get SAP Logonpad and can log on to BW.  From there I can choose the BW queries directly.

What is the best practice to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW?

Is it not possible to connect to the BO server?  And choose OLAP connection from there to connect to BW?

If so, is something missing in our setup?

Reynir

Change the format of dates

Hi,

I'm working with analysis for excel version 1.4.10 and my question is whether it is possible to change the format of dates?

I mean, for example I have in my query the fiscal period, for example, 001.2015. I know it can be changed to text 'ENE 2015' but this is a string and I would like to know if it could have a date format, for example ENE-2015 (but not a char string bu date format).

Thanks in advance.

Formula Analysis for office report on Local machine

Hello Experts,

I have created Analysis for Office report on BEx Query.

For user required formatting I have converted crosstab to formula excel using "convert to formula" button of Analysis.

Now when I saved this report on local machine, file saved as formula in each cell of excel, like "=SAPGetData("DS_1","ZZZ","YYY=XXX") "

When I am not connected to Analysis for office and open the report file on local machine then it shows #NAME in each formula cell.

I tried with copy entire report and paste special with values & source formatting. But in vain ..

Can someone please help me with information on how to save "formula analysis of office report" on local machine so that it can used offline/without connecting to analysis for office.

Thanks,

Swati

Applying Number Formats

Hi,

In the properties of crosstab in components tab, we have an option "Apply Number Formats" (need to enable registry to view this option KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\AdvancedAnalysis\Settings\NumberFormat) when we enable this option, the number formats should be applied after each navigation step. if disabled, the number formats should be set back to defaults after each navigation step. I have observed that there is no change in behavior (after refreshing or any navigation step) of number formats even when option is enabled or disabled. Observed the same behavior with "Apply Analysis Styles" as well. where default analysis styleset should be applied when refreshed.Have anyone observed this? Currently we are on Analysis for office 1.4.10.3290.

Logon to HANA from Analysis for Office

$

Hi,

I have a question on how others have setup the connection to HANA for Analysis for Office. I am wanting to setup end users to access data from HANA using Analysis for Office.

According to the Administrator Guide the SAP HANA OLAP connections are currently not SSO compatible.  Also according to the guide an OLAP connection to the Hana database with authentication type Pre-defined cannot work with Analysis for Office because the pre-defined user (and password) is not exposed to local clients such as Analysis.

We have HANA Analytic views and Caculation views which we are accessing using Analysis for Office using an OLAP connection defined in the CMC. At the moment the way for users to access the HANA data is to log in to the HANA system through a SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform prompt and then a second login prompt to HANA. This is not a very good solution as users have to go through two prompts entering two user ids and passwords. Also this means that every end user has to have a HANA login as well rather than us being able to setup a pre-defined user in HANA like we can with Analysis for OLAP.

I am hoping that someone can shed some light on what a good solution might be.

Note:We have native HANA and we don’t have BW on HANA.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

In 3.X Bex Analyzer users can able to freeze the crosstab columns after refreshing the bex workbook.

Now we have coverted the 3.X query to 7.X query and created the AO WB.

Users are familier with freezing the column width in Bex and we would like to know, how this can be achieved in AO.

Looking forward for your inputs.

Thanks,

John.

MIX values within report

$

Hi everyone,

one question regarding BEx Analyzer and BO Analysis for Office report and settings.

When we are having a BEx workbook which includes aggregated keyfigure with different units we are receiving "MIX" but the value is calculated in the background and can be used for graphics etc. too :

BEx MIX.png

And we want to convert this workbook to an analysis for office workbook we do have the difference that we do not see the aggregated sum in the background anymore:

BO MIX.png

Is there any settings within BO analysis to change this handling or view, as we need this sum eventhough the business statement of this value is incorrect because of the different units.

Many thanks in advance,

Katja
