Analysis Office compatibility with GUI 7.40 / NWBC 5.0?

$

0

Dear all,

after my first tests I have the impression that Analysis Office (1.4.9) is not compatible with the new system definition file format SAPUILandscape.xml. This format is activated as soon as NWBC 5.0 is added to a SAP-GUI 7.40 installation.

My searches for infirmation on this subject were not successful.

Is there any official statment or support note on that which I might have missed? Anybody sharing this experience?

This also is a warning not to check all checkboxes in the GUI 7.40 installation options without prior thinking about this. NWBC 5.0 is included in the GUI 7.40 installation package.

Regards,

Lutz

Analysis vs WebI (Web Intelligence)

I've searched all over SCN as well as the rest of the web and can't find a good comparison between the two tools. I did see a post on here comparing WebI 3.X with Analysis 4.0 but we're specifically looking at 4.0 tools. We're working on a side by side comparison of BusinessObjects Analysis vs Web Intelligence and what situations, if any, you would want to use WebI over Analysis, especially when you have Crystal Reports as an option for formatted reports. To us it seems that Analysis gives you much more flexibility without the restrictions of WebI. Any input on this or links to relevant articles is much appreciated and points will be awarded for helpful answers!

Automatic Execution of the Workbook

Hi Team,

I have created a workbook by embedding three similar BEx queries in the Analysis for Microsoft Excel.

Now my requirement is to execute this workbook by itself and then send an email to the users. Is this possible?

I need this automation as the workbook takes 30 min long to execute and hence the users do not want to waste time in that.. and they need email or the report saved in some folder some thing like that

any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

I have an interesting issue when testing the 64-bit version of SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office 1.4 and I have done a comparison/test of the various combinations of Operating Systems, Microsoft Office and SAP BusinessObjects Analysis software to determine the compatibility and below is the results:

64-bit Operating system + Office 32-bit + Analysis 32-bit versions:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows 7 64-bit, Office 2007 32-bit, SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office 1.4 SP7 32-bit = Working

Windows 8.1 64-bit, Office 2013 64-bit, SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office 1.4 SP7 64-bit = Not Working (crashes)

The following errors were encountered with the last 2 combinations:

The PAM for Analysis for Office 1.4 shows that Windows 8 64-bit is supported:

3. Latest Analysis 1.4 patch applied - Check - Currently on version 1.4 SP7 (Update as of 2014/05/14) I see there is already a note with reference to a hotfix soon to be available.

Retesting still results in the same issues with Windows 8/8.1 and Office 2013 64-bit and Analysis 1.4 SP7 64-bit

Has anyone else encountered this issue(s) before with Windows 8/8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013 64-bit and Analysis for Office 1.4 SP 7 64-bit?

Analysis for office performace is slow than BEx analyzer

HI,

We have new reports in AO, which we had in BEx previously. We have developed all the BEx into AO again with reference to BEx workbooks.

basically our BEx workbooks are built on 3x version queries, before we developed AO workbook we migrated those queries and developed new reports.  But when user runs the report in AO it is taking more time than in BEx.

Example: in Bex it takes 15 sec to get the data, but in AO it is taking 1 min to get the same data from same 7x query.

Any suggestions or setting to implement.

Thanks

How to execute "Lock Cells" button through VBA Macro?

Dear all,

The requirement is to lock input-ready cells on a Excel button click. We don't want to use the standard "Lock Cells" button provided in Planning Ribbon.

Button functionality is implemented in VBA Macro, But i am not able to find any information on How to trigget the AFO "Lock Cells" there. An option of Excel Locking is possible, but it only works when we protect the whole worksheet and in our case it is useless.

Any ideas?

Change Measure Value From Key to Text

I  created a macro to populate a filter with values from a list .

LResult = Application.Run("SAPSetFilter", "DS_1", "GLFMRPRID__GLFMRMOLC", vntData, "INPUT_STRING")

In order to get the macro to work, I had to have the field values listed as the key value instead of the text value (e.g. "MC0592" is displayed instead of "Serbia").  At the end of the macro, I would like to convert back from key to display the actual text,  I reviewed the User Guide: Sap  BusinessObjects Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office sections 3.4 and 3.6 on working with formulas and working with macros, but have not been able to identify a formula or API which will do the trick.  An Internet search came up empty as well.

Any help will be appreciated.

Insert Component - Filter: SAP BI Add-in has disconnected all data sources

When we try to add a filter via Insert Component - Filter we get the following error message:

"An exception occurred in one of the data sources.

SAP BI Add-in has disconnected all data sources. (ID-111007)"

"Nested exception. See inner exception below for more details:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

We get disconnected and have to close Analysis completely.

We are on version 1.3 SP5 (version 1.3.5.2288)

What could be the reason for this disconnection?

If we filter the same dimension via the Design Panel then we have no issues.

Kind regards,

Hello together,

We're using:

SAP BusinessObjects BI-Plattform 4.0  SP2 Patch 16 (14.0.2.703)

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis 1.4, , Edition für Microsoft Office - Add-On für BI-Plattform 4.1 (1.4.0.167)

on the Server

and

Analysis for MS Office 1.4 on the client

SSO between the SAP BO 4.0 SP2 Server and the SAP/BW System is enabled.

Now we are trying to schedule a workbook for precalculation and we are getting the following error:

precalculation of instance <number> failed with error 31

I haven't found any hints for that or for another error message for Analysis for MS Office

Issue copying a crosstab in Analysis Office from 1 sheet to another

Hi Analysis for Microsoft Excel experts,

I'm looking for some advice please.

I have an end user who is trying to copy a crosstab from one sheet to another using the components tab of the display design panel.

Right click > copy > then entering the location to copy to i.e sheet2 cell A1

Most of the time it copies the crosstab into the new sheet with no issues, but sometimes when he tries to copy he puts in the sheet and cell location to copy to and nothing happens. The new sheet stays blank and it does not copy his crosstab.

The problem seems intermittent, and he ends up inserting the original data source from scratch. We've tried logging off and back on etc. When I try to mimic what he's doing it works fine for me.

Any ideas on why this happens would be most helpful.

Kind regards

Linsey

Connection to BW via BusinessObjects Platform

$

Hi guys,

We want our users to log onto BW via the BO platform. At the moment I can pull a BW user through into our BO system and they can log onto Analysis by selecting BO platform using SAP Authentication. The next step is that they need to log onto BW. We don't have SSO set up so again they use their BW userID and password.

select_data_source.jpg

What are the options open to us for allowing our users to log onto BW? By that I mean which of the connection options can we use? Currently I only see a list of systems when I select 'Local System' and it pulls thought the systems from my .ini file and I can connect ok to any system regardless of which BO system I connected to.

Can/should I be able to see a list of Systems that we want to give our users access to from the 'System' option from the conenctions pull-down?

I can't find any documentation that details how I go about doing this, if it's at all possible. I assume I do some security in the BO CMC?

I hope the above makes sense? Regards and thanks in advance,

Stephen

Service in SICF for Analysis for Office

Hi All,

Do you know, there is any service in SICF to open an Analysis for Office excel workbook, such as RSR_BEX_LAUNCH works for BEx Workbook?

This is an example for BEx Workbooks, I would like the same for Analysis for Office

http://<SERVER>:<PORT>/sap/bc/bsp/sap/rsr_bex_launch/bexanalyzer.bex?WBID=965RKSZFR16LYT0DYDNRJL5X9

I know the t-code RAAOE for launch the application and open documents, but I need to open the workbook thru a web link. Our repository is SAP BW.

Thanks in advance, Federico

Closed Workbooks still appear to be open in VBE / memory issues

Dear fellow users,

I encounter a problem when using macros in an Excel Workbook to access Analysis functions in order to refresh datasources, set filters etc.

After closing the workbook in Excel via File -> Close or clicking the "X" in its window, the Workbook is still available in the Visual Basic Editor.

If I have several files open, I will get memory issues, as the supposedly closed files still seem to take up (quite a lot of) memory.

I use AO 1.4.4.2736 with Excel 2010 32bit.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

HD-3000_002_06032014_131711.png

Please see attaced image. I have one open file, I close it, but is still visible in the VBE.

After unloading the Analysis Com-AddIn the file is gone, Memory is freed.

Insert DataSource by VBA

Dear experts,

in order to ease the live of my customers, I try to automate some processes.

I want to enable them to create a list of BEx Queries in EXCEL

and based on this list and a button click VBA should generate the DataSources and Crosstabs.

So I'm looking for a SAP macro like      lResult= Application.Run("SAPInsertDataSource", "ApplicationServer", "Client", "System" ...)

Should be possible, because all parts are existing when you use the Input in the old fashion way.

Question 1: Any idea on how to automate the Insert DataSource process?

As fallback solution I could imagine a deposit of BEx queries (one WorkBook -> one BEx query -> one Analysis DataSource)

Process: VBA shows the customer the available queries, he selects some, VBA copies these DataSources into one Output workbook for further use.

I tried it, but the copied DataSources are losing the Analysis functionalities. There is already the feature "Smart Copy" but only from xls to ppt.

Question 2: Any experience in sucessful copying of Analysis DataSources / Crosstabs, preserving the full Analysis funcionality?

Kind regards

Michael

PS: For good answers, I'm willing to spend a beer.

Hi all,

I am getting the below error when running an Analysis for Excel report.

The odd thing is that the report gives the error ONLY for some specific selections, otherwise is working properly.

Moreover same version of the report in WEBI is working fine.

Someone has any clue about the issue?

BO Analysis for Excel – How to connect to SAP BW

$

Hi Gurus,

We recently upgrade to BO 4.1 (from 3.1).  And want to start to use Analysis for Excel.

We are little unclear how to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW 7,3.

From Analysis select “Select Data Source” Then get a pop-up “Logon to SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform” with User, Password and Web Service URL.  All those are blank.  For the Web Service URL there is a message “Error while checking availability of SAP BussinessObjects BI Platform system”

ScreenHunter_1001 Sep. 16 10.56.jpg

If choose “Skip” then get SAP Logonpad and can log on to BW.  From there I can choose the BW queries directly.

What is the best practice to connect from Analysis for Excel to SAP BW?

Is it not possible to connect to the BO server?  And choose OLAP connection from there to connect to BW?

If so, is something missing in our setup?

Reynir
